PhD Scholarships in Membrane Water Treatment Technology Kyungpook National University (KNU)
Job Description
The Department of Civil Environmental Engineering of Kyungpook National University (Sangju Campus) offers a PhD scholarship (~ 3 years) for highly motivated and exceptional students, starting from the September 2021 academic year.
The scholarship programs are research based and require publishing of research results in reputed academic journals. The PhD candidates will be involved in a government-funded research project. The candidates will receive starting monthly stipend (1,000,000 KRW) and full tuition fee waiver (the university’s scholarship and/or the research project). Kyungpook National University (KNU) is one of the leading national universities in Korea.
Research Topic:
The PhD candidate will work on membrane-based water treatment technology. Specifically, the research involves: (i) application of forward osmosis membrane technology, (ii) analysis of inorganic and organic membrane fouling, (iii) development of machine learning model to predict membrane fouling. The general research area can include following:

Expectation:
1) The PhD candidate has:
- Knowledge in environmental engineering, membrane process, aquatic chemistry, and reaction kinetics
- Experiences in the use of programming languages, such as MATLAB, PYTHON, etc.
- Knowledge in mathematical modelling
Eligibility:
Master degree holding candidates with academic background from environmental, chemical, civil engineering or other related academic disciplines are encouraged to apply. A valid English proficiency test score (TOEFL 530(CBT 197, iBT 71), IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, TEPS 600, TOEIC 700 or higher)
is required for students from non-English-speaking countries.
