Established in 1978, Faculty of Geology and Petroleum Engineering (GEOPET) has a history of more than 44 years. Up to now, more than 4000 engineers, masters and doctors have graduated from GEOPET, contributing a significant number of high-quality human resources to the socio-economic development of Vietnam and the world. High-quality engineers graduating from the Faculty now are investors, large business owners, holding key positions in the O&G and geology industries,  domestically as well as globally. Recently, GEOPET’s Petroleum Engineering program is ranked 50-100 in the World and No. 1 in Vietnam by the QS Ranking system.

Undergraduate, Master, Doctoral Programs

The objectives of the Faculty is to provide high-quality human resources from Undergraduate, Master's and Doctoral programs in the fields of:

• Green energy and climate change
• Exploration, exploitation and trading of water and mineral resources (gold, gemstones, building stones, sand, ...)
• Geotechnical engineering applied for O&G and energy, environmental industry
• Application of artificial intelligence (AI) and IoT technologies in oil and gas, green energy, environment and climate change projects
• Logistics and transportation in oil, gas and energy industry
• Oil and gas exploration; Oil and gas drilling and production
• Petroleum processing technology
• Project management in oil and gas, energy, mineral resources, construction industries;
• Safety and environmental protection in the oil and gas and energy industries, factories, etc.
• Construction of O&G and energy projects
• Design, construction, and environmental impact assessment of oil and gas and energy processing and storage facilities
• Economics of oil and gas, geology, energy and Earth resources
• Risk management in oil, gas and energy projects
• Prevention of Geological Disasters and Natural Disasters in the context of climate change

Enrollment Allocation

The Faculty currently pays great attention to improving the quality of its training program, with focus in: increasing the enrollment of both high-quality Vietnamese and English programs, cooperating with programs from developed countries such as the US, Australia, and Europe, Canada, Japan, Korea…

The annual enrollment of GEOPET’s bachelor programs is around 130 full-time students, and 50 high-quality and international students.

The postgraduate (Masters and Doctoral) enrollment number is around 50 students, including both on-campus and off-campus at companies or local governmental departments having training needs. The Faculty actively expands its international and high-quality graduate training programs in collaboration with leading universities in the US, Europe, Canada, Australia, Korea, Japan….

Scholarship and Employment Opportunities

Students can apply and be selected for full scholarships (equivalent to cost of 4-year tuition fees at HCMUT) up to 100 million VND / 4 years and many other scholarships from enterprises, alumni and HCMUT. After graduation, students are introduced to scholarship opportunities for Masters and PhD studies at leading universities from the US, Australia, Europe, Canada, Japan, South Korea... Each scholarship value can be up to 2-5 billion VND.
