Simulation Laboratory

I. INTRODUCTION

- Along with the development history of the Faculty of Geology and Petroleum Engineering, the Simulation Laboratory formerly known as the "Computational & Simulation Engineering Department", was established in 2005.

- Number of employees of the unit (as of November 25, 2021) is 05, Number of main staff: 03 (PhD. 02, M.E 01), Number of office staff: 01 (M.E 01)

II. FIELD OF ACTIVITIES

1. SPECIALIZED TRAINING SECTIONS

The Simulation Laboratory is an educational unit serving undergraduate and graduate training and scientific research in the national education system and technology transfer service activities at the request of organizations and individuals. Main tasks of the laboratory:

- Teaching students of the Faculty of Geology and Petroleum Engineering practical subjects in the field and in the laboratory;

- Guiding students to make topics, essays, theses, scientific research...;

- Serve for lecturers to do domestic and foreign research and topics, to perform technology transfer contracts;

- Consulting on the application of management systems, improving the quality of the ground;

- Training and fostering professional and technical expertise in field and laboratory tests in the field of geology, oil and gas industry.

- Testing the quality of products on soil, rock, water, core samples, cement, drilling fluid... as required;

2. FIELD OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

- Enhancing oil recovery.

- Heavy oil production technology.

- Petroleum Economics and Risk Management.

- Petroleum Geochemical.

- Energy and Resource Engineering.

3. TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER SECTOR

Research results and laboratory equipment can be used to partially meet the needs of society in the field of petroleum engineering and energy resources such as:

1. Modeling and Simulation on Engineering & Technology focusing on Petroleum, Geology, Unconventional Energy, etc.

a) Modeling the mud cutting transport in oil and gas well drilling operations

b) Developping the stress models around the drilling borehole in wellbore stability analysis, sanding, hydraulic fracturing, etc.

2. Analysis and Design the equipment and construction

a) Using Artificial Intelligence to predict and analysis the stuckpipe

b) Using Borehole Failures from Image logs in Petroleum and Geology Engineering

3. Experiment the Modeling of Petroleum Engineering

a) Transportation of Drilling Fluids and Mud Cuttings

b) Applying Nano materials and technology in oil and gas industry (cements, drilling fluids, etc.)

III. FACILITIES

In the period from its establishment to the present, the laboratory has been invested with a number of new equipment such as: Core flooding system (completed 2/3 stages), emission measurement equipment water of drilling fluid, meter for stabilizing emulsions in drilling fluid, JJ5 cement mortar mixer, benchtop pH/mV/temperature meter, sand density scale, 1500VA pressure regulator, degree meter conduction system, centrifugal water pump, PUMA air compressor, ... along with high configuration PC and CPU system, ... with a total cost of about 2 billion VND, has been operating very effectively for teaching & learning, scientific research.

IV. RESULTS OF TRAINING AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
