Speaker Biography:
Phil MacLaurin joined Premier Oil in 1987, and worked in the UK for 13 years evaluating hydrocarbon systems, with a special interest in carbonate reservoirs and what was, in the 1990’s, the emerging application of sequence stratigraphy. Phil came to work in Asia in 2000, to manage Premier’s exploration campaigns in the beautiful mountains and deserts of Pakistan.
In 2004, Phil was appointed Business Unit Manager for Premier Oil Vietnam (POVO) and was the geologist in the team that discovered the Chim Sao and CRD oil fields. During his 14 years in Vietnam he has led the exploration, appraisal, development and production phases of the Chim Sao and Dua fields, which currently produce 30,000 boepd. As BU Manager, Phil has managed the organizational, commercial and cultural challenges of growing POVO from a small exploration outfit into a safe, efficient and profitable operating company.
Phil was born in London. He is married to Fran; outside of work they enjoy tennis and are active volunteers, focused on developing the capacity and self-confidence of less advantaged young people in the UK and now, Vietnam.
